Bayero University is to incorporate CL4 Stem Formula as part of its Curriculum development, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, has said.

Speaking at the an interactive session which took place on Tuesday, 28 November, 2023 at the Senate's Committee Room, the Vice-Chancellor, who was represented by the Dean, Faculty of Arts and Islamic Studies, Prof. Ibrahim Garba Satatima said he was highly impressed by the success recorded by the Project. “Though the University has developed the Core Curriculum Minimum of Academic Standards (CCMAS) adopting a formula that would incorporate the project by the University would be easier”.

He thanked the researchers and urged them to try as much as possible to impact the knowledge received to their students.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL) Niger State, Prof. Abu KasimAdamu, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor(Academics),Prof.M.A.Paiko, congratulated the Vice-Chancellor, Management, Staff, Teacher Educators and Students on the auspicious occasion to review and officially close-out meetings in Kano and Kaduna on CL4STEM Project.

He disclosed that CL4STEM was a project of the Global Partnership for Education(GPE)and International development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada, piloted in Nigeria, Open University Tanzania, Samtse College of Education, Bhutan and Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, India was the technical consultant to the project.

In his presentation on the overview of the CL4STEM project and the journey so far, 2021-2023, the Global Project Leader, Prof. Nuhu Obaje, highlighted some of the results of the piloted project.He said there was transformation from traditional classroom practices to innovative instructional and assessment practices in the CL4STEM modules in the project countries.

The findings clearly show that the teachers' knowledge, attitudes and perception towards engaging their students in classroom practices were enhanced.The prominent instructional practices employed by teachers was collaboration or group work in which the students were engaged in exchange of ideas among themselves and between them and the teacher to addressequity and inclusion. While the increase in teacher's use of formative and diagnostic assessment strategies promote higher order thinking in their students.

Equally, the collaborative classroom environment during the CL4STEM activities encouraged students to construct arguments, ask questions, justify their claims, criticize each other and make decisions: these generally enhanced their high order thinking skills. Among others

Also in his presentation,  the nodal officer,IBBUL, AbdullahiKawu, explained to the participants,the technical aspect of the CL4STEM project via zoom.

In his remarks, The State Coordinator representing Kano, Prof. Garba Shu'aibu, disclosed that six (6) staff of Bayero University, Kano including himself participated in the project as teacher educators, drawn from four (4) departments; Mathematical Sciences,, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Responses made by the Newly Qualified Teachers (NQT) were appreciative and the problems encountered were problems of uploading at the beginning.Highlight of the meeting was presentation of certificates of award to the twenty (20) participants across schools in Federal and Kano State Ministries of Education.
