Torrential rainfall has severely impacted 90 schools and 82 farming communities in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State, leading to significant damages estimated in millions of naira. The heavy downpour, which occurred over Monday and Tuesday, submerged 47 primary schools and disrupted educational activities across the region.

The floods primarily affected Muregi Ward, where 51 communities were inundated, and Gbara Ward, which witnessed the submergence of 31 communities. While extensive damage has been reported, including the destruction of farmland and vital infrastructure, remarkably, no lives have been lost.

Residents and students in the affected areas have been displaced, forcing many to relocate to safer zones. The flooding has raised concerns about the continuity of education for the displaced students, as many schools remain underwater, complicating efforts to resume normal activities.
