Historic Iftar at FUEZ: Vice-Chancellor Announces Promotion of 48 Pioneer Professors

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Zaria, Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure, hosted an Iftar (breaking of fast) on 25th February, 2026, at the University, bringing together members of the University community and other stakeholders in an atmosphere of unity and spiritual reflection.

The event was marked by celebration, togetherness, prayers, spiritual renewal, peace, love, and faith, reflecting the essence of the Ramadan season.

In his remarks, Prof. Bunkure expressed deep appreciation to all those in attendance, emphasising that the University remains committed to strengthening its relationship with stakeholders both within and outside the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor noted that he derives great joy from associating with the good people of the University, its host communities, and sister institutions.

He fondly recalled the warm and grand reception accorded to him upon assuming office, describing it as a demonstration of goodwill and collective commitment to the institution’s growth.

Prof. Bunkure also shared encouraging news about the University’s rapid transition into the university system, disclosing that the institution is set to promote its first batch of about 48 Professors very soon, possibly in the month of March.

The announcement was received with optimism, further reinforcing confidence in the steady progress and academic advancement of the University.

 Attendants who spoke at the spiritual gathering commended the Vice-Chancellor and his Management team for organizing the event, praising him for fostering unity by bringing together diverse groups to share the spirit of Ramadan, dine together, and offer prayers for the University, the community, the country, and humanity at large.

They also affirmed that they have continued to enjoy relative peace in their relationship with the University and have consistently made time to attend its programmes.

The Iftar brought together religious and traditional leaders, members of staff, friends of the University, security agencies, and well-wishers.

In attendance were the Emir of Zazzau, Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, who was represented by Alh. Aminu Zaki, Dangoruban Zazzau; members of the University Management, including the Ag. Registrar, Alh. Shehu Iya Sa’idu, and the Ag. Bursar, Alh. Muhammad Kabir Aliyu, as well as Directors, Deans, and Heads of Units and Departments.

Also present were Imam Muhammad Sani Gummi of Imam Haruna Danja Mosque; Rev. Father Dominic of Saint Augustine Church; the Rev. Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Wusasa; Hon. Salisu Bala Alwa’u, former Majority Leader of the Kaduna State House of Assembly; Alh. Haruna and Alh. Muftahu from Kano, among others.

Representatives of security and paramilitary agencies were also in attendance, including officers of the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Zaria Area Police Command. 

Traditional title holders such as the Sarkin Gyallesu, Mal. Yusuf Abdullahi Mai Unguwa, Unguwan Kaya, were equally present, alongside many other distinguished guests.
