IAR Ahmadu Bello University Showcases Newly Released Sorghum Cultivars in Kano to Boost Agricultural Productivity

The Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR) at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in collaboration with the Dryland Crops Project, has showcased newly released short- and medium-statured sorghum cultivars—SAMSORG 52, SAMSORG 53, and SAMSORG 54. The event, held on October 14, 2024, at Bagadawa in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State, was part of a Field Day Demonstration aimed at promoting agricultural practices among rural farmers.

The event also highlighted the importance of the sorghum value chain and strengthened market linkages.
Speaking at the event, IAR Executive Director, Prof. Ado Yusuf, represented by Prof. L.J. Bamaiyi, emphasized the significance of sorghum as a crop and pledged the Institute’s continued support to farmers. Representatives from the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) and other agricultural agencies also attended the event.
