The three labor unions at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, have joined forces in their quest to ensure that the next Rector hails from within the institution. As the tenure of the current Rector, Prof. Kazeem Adebiyi, draws to a close in March, these unions are resolute in their demand for an internal candidate to assume the prestigious role.

The Non Academic Staff Union (NASU), emphasized the unanimity among the unions regarding the appointment of the next Rector. Their collective agitation aligns with the guidelines set forth by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

Biodun Abegunde, Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP), echoed this sentiment. He stressed that adherence to the NBTE guidelines is crucial not only for selecting the Rector but also for appointing other principal officers within the polytechnic. Abegunde pointed out that several younger polytechnics have successfully implemented these guidelines, contributing to the efficient functioning of their institutions.
