Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) have provided clarity on the board’s role, stating that their function is to “plan and set guidelines for admission” and not to offer admission directly. The Board Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Dorothy Udoh, further explained that the Board’s responsibility is to place “suitably-qualified candidates into tertiary institutions of their choice.

Officials from the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) have provided clarity on the board’s role, stating that their function is to “plan and set guidelines for admission” and not to offer admission directly.

During a meeting with the Association of Heads of Federal Establishments (AHFE), Akwa Ibom State Chapter, JAMB enlightened the public about its activities and services. The board clarified its role as Nigeria’s premier education agency, stating that it holds policy meetings to “plan and set guidelines for admissions” each academic year.

The Board Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Dorothy Udoh, further explained that the Board’s responsibility is to place “suitably-qualified candidates into tertiary institutions of their choice,” based on the admission guidelines and criteria set by the institutions’ proprietors. She also emphasized the Board’s role in conducting third-party examinations, such as recruitment examinations for paramilitary organizations and promotion examinations for various institutions.

The State Coordinator, Mrs. Grace Olima William, highlighted that the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) is a ranking examination. She clarified that JAMB only “approves admission for suitably qualified candidates” based on institutional recommendations, dispelling the common misconception that JAMB offers admission.
