JAMB Explains Why Aspirants’ Admissions May Be Cancelled

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a warning to tertiary institutions, parents, and guardians against accepting any 2024 admissions outside the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS). In its latest bulletin, JAMB stated that any admissions processed outside CAPS will be annulled and voided.

JAMB emphasized that institutions must adhere to established admission guidelines and decisions made through CAPS to ensure a transparent and fair admission process. The board reminded tertiary institutions to forward the names of their admitted students to the Ministry of Education three months after their matriculation.

This reminder comes as tertiary institutions prepare for the 2024 admission exercise. The Federal Government had previously set up an Inter-Ministerial Investigative Committee to address certificate racketeering, following an investigative report on fake degree mills in the Benin Republic. This led to a ban on the accreditation and evaluation of degrees from Benin Republic and Togo. The Minister of Education has vowed to eliminate holders of fake degrees from the system.
