Pandemonium erupted in Malete, the host community of Kwara State University (KWASU), on Thursday due to a joint sting operation conducted by the Economic and Fina

ncial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) . Among the 50 suspects paraded at the EFCC zonal office in Ilorin48 were KWASU students, accused of cyber crimes . Despite the chaos, there has been no official response from either the EFCC or NDLEA regarding the situation in Malete following their raid on the student community.

The KWASU management, in a statement, attributed the crisis to “arbitrary” sting operations carried out by the EFCC and NDLEA operatives . However, they confirmed that peace has been restored in the community and emphasized that no one was shot and no lives were lost during the unrest . The university encourages students to maintain peaceful and orderly conduct and assures them of a safe learning environment.

The statement reads: "Following the unrest that broke out this evening in Malete, the Management of Kwara State University wishes to inform all students and staff of KWASU that peace has been restored to the Malete community. We urge everyone to remain calm and lawful.

Contrary to reports on social media, no one was shot, and no lives were lost during the unrest. The university management has been in communication with the EFCC and NDLEA regarding the arbitrary sting operations on our student body. We emphasize that we do not condone rough handling of bona fide students of our great university. We urge our dear students to uphold the peaceful and orderly conduct for which our Great KWASU is known.

We are committed to providing a safe and enabling environment for our students, ensuring they learn, develop, and graduate within the stipulated time frame. As such, the Harmattan semester examinations currently underway will continue as scheduled.
