Professor Folasade Ogunsola, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Akoka, has called upon the committees established by the university to meticulously prepare for the upcoming Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU) event. This prestigious sporting event will be jointly hosted by UNILAG and Lagos State University (LASU). The university expects these committees to surpass the achievements of the previous Nigerian University Games (NUGA), which UNILAG successfully hosted two years ago.

Inaugurating the 18 distinct committees for the sporting event, Professor Ogunsola addressed the committee members, emphasizing their crucial role in ensuring an excellent hosting experience despite the current economic challenges. She expressed confidence in their capabilities.
Professor Afolabi Lesi, Chairman of the UNILAG Sports Council, highlighted the significance of collaboration between UNILAG and LASU in promoting sports excellence among African youth. Notably, the last time Nigeria hosted this 53-year-old event was two decades ago in Bauchi, and approximately 3,000 athletes and officials are expected to participate.

LASU will also establish its own committees, working in tandem with UNILAG to achieve the shared goal of hosting a successful FASU. The committees cover various aspects, including fundraising, security, technical support, medical services, accommodation, transportation, accreditation, media, ceremonies, catering, volunteer management, cultural and tourism activities, immigration, external relations, and revenue generation.
The 11th edition of the Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU), set to take place from Friday, September 20 to Sunday, September 29, 2024, promises an exhilarating lineup of sporting events. Participants can look forward to engaging in football, athletics, badminton, chess, judo, table tennis, karate, taekwondo, swimming, basketball, volleyball, and handball competitions.
