KASSEP, YUMSUK Team Visits Mozambique for Knowledge Sharing

 A delegation from the Kano State Surveillance for Evidence and Policy (KASSEP) implementation team, comprising experts from the Africa Center of Excellence for Population Health and Policy (ACEPHAP), Yusuf Maitama Sule University, the Ministry of Health, and the Kano State Government, visited Mozambique from April 21-27, 2024.

The visit aimed to study the implementation module of a similar project, Country Wide Surveillance for Action (CWSA), to gain insights and inform decision-making for the KASSEP project. The team met with the CWSA team in Maputo, holding separate technical and policymaking meetings to ensure professionalism and timeliness.

The technical team discussed scientific aspects of implementation, including sampling, data collection protocols, and project management, with key stakeholders from the CWSA team. The discussions revealed critical technical issues, including the localization of protocols after initial mentoring from Johns Hopkins University (JHU).

The KASSEP team learned about the three distinct stages of implementation, data collection platforms, and databases established by JHU. The team is currently developing another platform for government and official use.

The visit highlighted differences in approach, with the KASSEP team consolidating forms into one, whereas the CWSA team captures them separately. This knowledge sharing exercise aims to enhance the implementation of the KASSEP project in Kano State.
