KASU Takes Lead in Air Pollution Monitoring with HePD Partnership
In a groundbreaking move towards environmental stewardship, Kaduna State University (KASU) has forged an alliance with the Humanitarian Enhanced Platform for Development (HePD) organization to combat air pollution in the region.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between KASU, HePD, and the Kaduna State Government marks a pivotal step in addressing air quality issues through data-driven approaches.
Mr Sayo Alabi, the Lead Consultant said HePD is renowned for its expertise in Open Street mapping across West and Northern Africa and brings to the table a wealth of experience in leveraging geospatial data for humanitarian response and economic development. The collaboration aims to monitor various gases and particulate matter in the atmosphere, providing crucial insights for decision-makers.

"We are not just monitoring pollution; we are catalyzing change," asserts Prof. Abdullahi I. Musa, the Vice-Chancellor of KASU, underscoring the partnership's broader implications for environmental sustainability and public health. The initiative aligns with the university's commitment to nurturing a new cadre of climate change advocates among its students.

Prof. Mande Kato Hosea, the Deputy Provost, College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Kafanchan Campus and a leading expert in climate change and CO2 efflux, played a pivotal role in facilitating the donation of air pollution monitoring equipment to the university. "This marks the dawn of a collaborative era, where academia, government, and NGOs join forces to safeguard our environment," Prof. Hosea emphasizes.
The MoU not only fosters data sharing and research collaboration but also paves the way for joint initiatives aimed at mitigating environmental degradation and promoting sustainable development. With enhanced coordination between KASU, the Kaduna State Government, and HePD, the partnership holds promise for creating eco-smart cities equipped to tackle the challenges of urbanization and climate change.
As Kaduna State University embraces its role as a catalyst for positive change, the signing of this MoU signifies a bold stride towards a cleaner, healthier future for all.
The meeting also had in attendance, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof. Yusha'u I. Ango, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof. Muhammad Bashir Ali, Registrar, Barr. Samira Balarabe and the Director of KASUConsult, Prof. HO Aboh.
