Kendra Grissom, a young African-American lady from Baltimore, has secured her place as the best-graduating student at Spelman College, a distinguished historically black college for women in the United States. Kendra earned her bachelor's degree in History, graduating Summa Cum Laude, and is set to embark on a Ph.D. journey.

Kendra views her accomplishment as a testament to the potential of inner-city youth and strives to debunk stereotypes associated with her background.

"As a first-generation college student, I am incredibly blessed to have a village of amazing mentors, teachers, family members, friends, neighbors, professors, and church members who have supported me throughout my life’s journey. I would not be where I am today without them, and this honor is as much theirs as it is mine," Kendra expressed gratefully.

During her time at Spelman College, Kendra demonstrated commitment not only to academic excellence but also to community service. She actively participated in the Ford First Generation Scholars Program, serving as a mentor to support her peers. Kendra's contributions were recognized with various awards, including the Clio Outstanding History Graduating Senior Award.

Kendra, an ambassador of the Spelman Museum of Fine Art and an aide for the Spelman College Glee Club, plans to further her academic journey at Johns Hopkins University. She aspires to pursue a Ph.D. in history with the goal of becoming a professor at a historically Black college or university. Kendra aims to make history more accessible and bring about positive change in public education.
