Kogi Poly Security Foils Campus Theft, Suspect Remanded at Koto Prison

The Kogi State Polytechnic Security Unit has recorded another feat in its sustained efforts to safeguard lives and institutional property, following the arrest of a student for alleged theft of electrical wires and ceiling fans from the Wada Boys' Hostel and classrooms within the Polytechnic.

‎The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, 7th July 2026, at about 2:30 a.m., when vigilant security personnel, while conducting routine night patrol, noticed suspicious movement around the Wada Boys' Hostel and immediately launched an operation.

‎The prompt response of the officers led to the arrest of one Ismail Amuda with Matric Number 2024/ND/OTM/098, who was apprehended while allegedly packing stolen items into a bag. Items recovered from the suspect included electrical wires removed from the hostel building and six ceiling fans allegedly removed from classrooms.

‎During preliminary interrogation at the Polytechnic Security Office, the suspect reportedly confessed that he intended to sell the items to raise money for personal needs.

‎Following established security procedures, the recovered items were secured as exhibits, the suspect's statement was obtained, and the matter was escalated to the Chief Security Officer, SP. Adams A. Audu (Rtd), who directed that the case be transferred to the Nigeria Police for thorough investigation and prosecution.

‎The suspect was subsequently taken to the B Division Police Station, Lokoja, where he was charged before a competent court. At his arraignment, the presiding Magistrate of the Lokoja Area Court, ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Federal Correctional Centre, Koton Karfe, pending the next hearing scheduled for 14 August 2026.

‎This arrest adds to a previous one recorded by the Polythecnic's security personnel in recent months. In an earlier operation, vigilant security personnel intercepted two individuals who gained unauthorized access to the campus at night to perform ritual activities. 

‎The incident involved two persons identified as Ezekiel Musa, a Dekina indigene and graduate of the Department of Building Technology with Matric Number 2022/ND/BLD/057, who is currently a candidate for the Higher National Diploma (HND) programme, and Idache Solomon, an HND I student of the Department of Surveying and Geoinformatics with Matric Number 2025/HND/SGI/029.

‎The duo were apprehended by the Polytechnic's security after they gained unauthorized access to the Polytechnic campus to perform suspected ritual activities at night.

‎Upon their arrest, the suspects were taken into custody, where preliminary investigations commenced under the supervision of the Chief Security Officer, SP. Adams A. Audu (Rtd). Following the initial investigation, they were handed over to officers of the Nigeria Police at the B Division Police Station, Lokoja, for further investigation in line with due process.

‎In addition to the continued Police investigation, the matter was referred to the Students' Disciplinary Committee for appropriate administrative action in accordance with the Polytechnic's rules and regulations, particularly as it concerns the conduct of students and candidates within the institution.

‎Management also acknowledged the Unit's pivotal role in ensuring the seamless and incident-free conduct of the 2025/2026 second semester examinations, during which potential cult-related threats and other security concerns often associated with examination periods and graduation activities were effectively neutralized. These remarkable achievements reflect the dedication, competence and proactive approach of the Security Unit in sustaining a safe, peaceful and conducive environment for teaching, learning and administrative activities within the institution.

‎These successes further reaffirm the stance of the Rector, Professor Salihu Sanusi Avidime, against all forms of criminality, misconduct and activities capable of undermining the peace, security and reputation of the Polytechnic. Since assuming office, the Rector has consistently emphasized discipline, accountability and strict enforcement of the institution's regulations, a policy direction that is already yielding positive results through improved campus security and the prompt handling of security breaches.

‎In light of these developments, the Management of Kogi State Polytechnic reiterates its unwavering commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against criminality, cultism, theft, vandalism, ritual practices and every other form of unlawful conduct. Staff, students and members of the public are advised to comply with all security protocols, as the Polytechnic will continue to strengthen its collaboration with the Nigeria Police and other relevant security agencies to sustain heightened vigilance and ensure that anyone found violating the law or the institution's regulations is decisively dealt with in accordance with due process.
