A tragic incident has unfolded in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, as a 21-year-old female student of Kwara State College of Health Technology, Mojisola Awesu, was found dead at a refuse dump in the Aleniboro area. The shocking discovery was confirmed by the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, in a statement made available to PUNCH Online on Tuesday.
According to the police report, the body of Awesu was found on August 12, 2024, by labourers at the dump site. A concerned resident of the community reported the discovery to the authorities, prompting police operatives to visit the scene. The body was later identified as that of Mojisola Awesu before being deposited at a morgue.
The circumstances leading to Awesu’s death have raised serious concerns. On August 13, a missing person report was filed by Miss Blessing, who identified herself as Awesu’s roommate. Blessing reported that Awesu had left home to attend a party reportedly organised by students from two private universities in Ilorin.
DSP Ejire-Adeyemi provided further details, stating that on August 9, Awesu received a phone call from a friend named Miss Timileyin. Timileyin informed her about an event organised by students of Summit University and Al-Hikmah University in Ilorin. Timileyin introduced Awesu to Mr. Adebayo Happiness, a student of Summit University, who allegedly invited her to the night party under the pretense of having her act as his girlfriend for a fee of N15,000.
Upon her arrival in Ilorin, Awesu communicated with her roommate, expressing discomfort with the hotel where she was lodged by Adebayo Happiness. She also noted that there was no party at the location as initially promised. After this communication, Awesu’s phone became unreachable, and all attempts by her roommate to contact her proved futile.
The police spokesperson confirmed that an investigation was promptly launched, leading to the arrest of some suspects in connection with the case. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further discreet investigation.
As the investigation continues, the Kwara State Police Command has assured the public that all efforts are being made to uncover the truth behind Awesu’s tragic death and to bring those responsible to justice.
