Kwara State Governor Appoints Vice-Chancellor for New University
Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has appointed Professor Medinat Folorunsho Salman as the pioneer Acting Vice-Chancellor of the newly established Kwara State University of Education, Ilorin.
In a significant step for higher education in Kwara State, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has appointed Professor Medinat Folorunsho Salman as the first Acting Vice-Chancellor of the newly established Kwara State University of Education, Ilorin.
Professor Salman, a renowned academic in mathematics education, previously served as a lecturer in the Department of Science Education and coordinator of the Educational Technology Centre at the University of Ilorin. She holds a Bachelor of Education from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, a Master's degree in Mathematics Education from the University of Ilorin (1990), and a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from the same institution (1998). Notably, she is the first female professor from the Ilorin Emirate.
Governor AbdulRazaq’s decision was confirmed in a statement released by Rafiu Ajakaye, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, emphasizing the appointment’s immediate effect.
Professor Salman’s academic research focuses on mathematics education, gender issues in science education, and innovations in mathematics teaching in developing nations. Her leadership is expected to shape the future of the newly formed institution, which was established in May 2024.
This appointment highlights the state government's commitment to advancing educational standards and fostering leadership roles for women in academia.
