UNIMAID Hosts Old School And Garri Day As Social Week Continues

The Students’ Union Government, SUG, of the University of Maiduguri, UNIMAID, took students on a nostalgic journey on Sunday, 16 August 2026, as the ongoing Social Week entered its second day with a colourful "Old School and Garri Day."

Held under the theme "Come Rep Your Old School Vibes," the event blended nostalgia, culture, entertainment, and student camaraderie. It gave participants the opportunity to relive the bold fashion, iconic music, and vibrant lifestyle of past generations while savoring the beloved Nigerian staple, garri.

Students turned out in impressive old-school outfits, creating an electrifying atmosphere filled with throwback music, games, competitions, and other entertaining activities. The celebration also featured the traditional serving of garri and gbegiri, adding a distinctive Nigerian cultural flavour to the day's festivities.
