Lagos State Government Releases 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination Results

The Lagos State Government has officially released the results for the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). The announcement was made by the Director of the Lagos State Examinations Board, Mr. Adebayo Orunsolu, in a statement addressed to both public and approved private junior secondary schools in the state.

Mr. Orunsolu stated that schools can now access their students’ results via the Lagos State Examination Board’s online portal. He encouraged school authorities to visit the portal using their default or existing usernames and passwords provided during student registration to print out their results, effective from Monday, September 23, 2024. This online access aims to eliminate the stress of traveling to the Board’s office and reduce delays in receiving results.

For students who did not meet the passing requirements in key subjects, arrangements for a resit examination are in place. Mr. Orunsolu confirmed that the date for the BECE resit examination for those who failed English Studies or Mathematics, or both, will be communicated to affected schools in due course.

He emphasized that this new system reflects the government’s commitment to streamlining educational processes and ensuring a smooth experience for schools and students. Mr. Orunsolu also commended stakeholders for their cooperation in implementing the new policy.

The BECE is a standardized assessment administered to students at the end of their primary education in Lagos State, marking their transition to secondary education. It assesses students’ knowledge and skills across core subjects, including English Language, Mathematics, and Science, among others.

Additionally, the Lagos State Government recently announced an increase in boarding fees across all public secondary schools, raising the fee from N35,000 to N100,000 per term. The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education defended this decision, stating that the previous fee was no longer sustainable in the current economic climate.
