Lagos State University Hosts 4th International Workshop on Coastal Resilience and Marine Economy

The Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, welcomed esteemed members of the Coastal Resilience Research Consortium to the university’s main campus in Ojo. Led by Prof. Jimmy Adegoke, Chairman and Co-convener of the 4th International Workshop of the US West Africa Atlantic Coastal Resilience Research Consortium, the meeting took place in the Vice Chancellor’s Conference Room on the 6th floor of the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building.

Prof. Adenike Boyo, representing the Vice Chancellor, expressed her delight in hosting Prof. Adegoke and his co-conveners, which included Prof. Charles Ichoko, Prof. Brian Arbic, Prof. Paulinus Chigbu, Prof. Anthony Ogbeibu, and Justin Ahanhanzo. The LASU management team, including Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Prof. Olufunsho Abayomi Omobitan, Acting Registrar/Deputy Registrar of Academic Staff Establishment Mr. Samuel Otesanya, Acting Bursar/Deputy Bursar for Budget & Budgetary Control and Lagos State Matters Mr. Adekunle Odulami, and University Librarian Dr. Omawuni Makinde, also participated in the meeting.

The visiting team was accompanied by the Local Organizing Committee, led by the immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. Shehu Akintola, along with Prof. Kafeelah Yusuf (Director, CESSED) and Prof. Michael Ahove (Research Professor).

Among the attendees from LASU were Deputy Registrar of the Vice Chancellor’s Office Dr. Lateef Sekoni and Deputy Registrar/Special Assistant to the Vice Chancellor Dr. Lateef Salami, along with members of staff from the Vice Chancellor’s office and the Centre for Information and Public Relations (CIPR) team.

The 4th Annual International Workshop, themed “Harnessing The Blue And Marine Economy In Support Of The UN Decade Of Ocean Science For Sustainable Development,” commenced on August 19, 2024, with member registration and plenary talks. The workshop will continue on Tuesday, August 20, and Wednesday, August 21, 2024.
