LASU Emerges as Winners of National Debate Competition

Lagos State University (LASU) has emerged as the champion of the 2024 Justice Innocent Umezulike National Debate Competition, showcasing their exceptional debating skills and intellectual prowess. The final round saw a battle between LASU's Team Beryl and Ahmadu Bello University's Team Sapphire.

LASU Emerges as Winners of National Debate Competition

Lagos State University (LASU) has emerged as the champion of the 2024 Justice Innocent Umezulike National Debate Competition, showcasing their exceptional debating skills and intellectual prowess.

The competition, held over four stages, saw participation from over 20 law faculties across four regions of Nigeria.

The competition, traditionally reserved for law students, opened its doors to all undergraduate students from accredited faculties this year, fostering a broader academic exchange.

The final round saw a battle between LASU's Team Beryl and Ahmadu Bello University's Team Sapphire. Ultimately, Team Beryl, represented by Oladipupo Olalekan (Speaker), Ajeniya Oluwagbemiga (Speaker), and Musendiku Mulikat (Researcher), emerged victorious, securing the coveted championship title.

"This win is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our team," said Oladipupo Olalekan, the Best Speaker of the competition. "We are proud to represent LASU and carry the torch of intellectual excellence." 

Beyond the competition's competitive aspect, the event served as a tribute to the late Justice Innocent Umezulike, an esteemed Professor of Land and Property Law, with over 25 published books and the longest tenure as Chief Justice in the South East. Dr. Cynthia Umezulike and Dr. Victor Umezulike, Foundation co-chairs, highlighted their commitment to fostering legal education and research, ensuring their father's legacy lives on through the competition.
