Abdullahi Juli Mansur, a 200-level student in the Department of Computer Science at Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila, Kano, has been suspended for what the university describes as immoral behavior on campus.
Abdullahi Juli Mansur, a 200-level student in the Department of Computer Science at Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila, Kano, has been suspended for what the university describes as immoral behavior on campus. The incident, which took place on Tuesday, involved Mansur publicly proposing to a female student, an act deemed inappropriate by the university authorities.
The suspension follows a viral video clip showing Mansur attempting to give a red bouquet to the female student within the school premises. The public display of affection attracted attention from other students, who reacted with cheers. However, the female student did not accept the bouquet.
In response to the incident, the university management issued a notice of suspension for Mansur, citing his actions as an immoral act contrary to the institution's principles. The suspension was communicated through an internal memo (Ref. no. AUS/REG/54) dated May 14, 2024, signed by Deputy Registrar Sani A. Usman. The memo indicated that a disciplinary committee has been established to further investigate the matter.

“This is to intimate you that Abdullahi Juli Mansur, a student of the Department of Computer Science with registration no. AUS/SCC/COM/22/1018, was suspended for displaying improper behavior on campus,” the notice read.
A source close to the university management revealed that the decision was influenced by previous warnings issued to Mansur regarding similar behavior. The source emphasized the importance of adhering to the guiding principles of the institution, which is faith-based and upholds Islamic and Hausa cultural values.
“This is not the first time the boy has been found with that character. We have two previous cases, and the university particularly invited the student, but he refused to take to caution,” the source said. “And as you know, the university is faith-based, and such manner is against the principle of Islam and Hausa culture. So that was what actually necessitated the suspension.”
