Students from Lagos State University (LASU) won the Quality Health, Safety Environment and Sustainability (QHES) Debate Competition 2.0 held on July 20, 2024, at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Students from Lagos State University (LASU) emerged victorious in the Quality Health, Safety Environment and Sustainability (QHES) Debate Competition 2.0, defeating competitors from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and the Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers (NiSafetyE). The event, organized by the Center of Excellence for Innovation and Leadership (CIEL), took place on July 20, 2024, at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Alausa, Lagos.

Representing LASU were Oluwatobiloba Awonuga and Oluwatimilehin Alarape, both 300-level Law students, and Sulaimon Olaitan Samad, a 200-level English student. The debate, centered on safety management errors and workplace accidents, saw the LASU team deliver compelling arguments and insights, ultimately securing first place with an impressive score of 89%.

The victorious LASU team was awarded ₦150,000, scholarships worth over ₦350,000 each, and the prestigious title of QHSE Ambassadors for the next year. They will also be invited to speak at an SDG conference on August 3, 2024, and received sponsorships from FemFoundation, an autographed book by Waliu Adegoke, and a commemorative plaque.
