"We are committed to the achievement of the 17 SDG goals", LASU VC, Prof. OlatunjiI-Bello says as she receives UN humanitarian cordinator in Nigeria.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, has pledged the commitment of the Lagos State University under her leadership to the fulfillment of the United Nations (UN) 17 Sustainable Development Goals aimed at improving the quality of life of all people.

She made the commitment when the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr. Matthias SCHMALE alongside the Permanent Secretary, Office of SDG & Investment, Lagos State, Mrs. Abosede GEORGE and Mr. Oluseyi SOREMEKUN of the UN Information Centre (UNIC), Abuja paid her a courtesy visit at her office on Friday, 21st July 2023, ahead of the Inauguration of the LASU-SDG Youth Club holding the same day. 

The Vice Chancellor in her remarks said, "As a University, we have created the Centre for Actualization of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to show our commitment to the actualization of the 17 SDG Goals. These goals have been designed by the UN to ensure that the world is liveable for everyone of us.

The government cannot achieve these goals alone; everyone must be involved. We as a university are also involved to ensure that these goals are fulfilled in the lives of our students and staff and other stakeholders.

She called on the United Nations to partner and support the university to achieve its laudable plans to entrench SDG activities in the university.

The UN Nigeria boss, Mr. Mathias SCHMALE, in his response, assured of the Body's willingness to partner with the University noting that such partnership would be mutually beneficial to the two organisations. 

The visitors were led to the Vice Chancellor by the Director, Centre for the Actualization of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Prof. Tayo AJAYI, with other members of the University Management in attendance.
