FUTA Awards First Degrees to 6,405 Graduates at 34th, 35th Convocation
The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), conferred first degrees on 6,405 graduates from the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions during its 34th and 35th convocation ceremonies on Friday, November 29, 2024.

Of the graduates, 519 earned First Class honors, 3,408 graduated with Second Class (Upper Division), 2,139 with Second Class (Lower Division), and 339 with Third Class. Valedictorians included Ifeoluwa Faith Faromika and Johnbull Aanuoluwapo Vitowanu, both with CGPAs of 4.96, representing the 2022/2023 session, and Oluwasegun Joshua Ajakaye, who achieved a CGPA of 4.95, leading the 2023/2024 session.
In her address, Vice Chancellor Professor Adenike Oladiji celebrated the graduates’ resilience and FUTA’s global standing, highlighting achievements such as groundbreaking research collaborations and recognition of 40 academic staff among the world’s top 2% of scientists. She urged the graduates to leverage their skills, remain steadfast in their pursuits, and serve as exemplary ambassadors of the institution.
Pro-Chancellor Senator (Professor) Nora Daduut commended the management’s efforts in molding students worthy in character and learning and pledged the Council's continued support. She also extended gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve.
Valedictorian Oluwasegun Ajakaye encouraged his peers to embrace resilience, citing Maya Angelou: “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.” Faromika and Vitowanu shared inspiring messages on leadership, adaptability, and purpose-driven living.
The event’s keynote was delivered by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who advocated for stronger partnerships between academia and industry to drive innovation, particularly in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges through technology.
The convocation underscored FUTA’s mission to produce leaders equipped to excel globally and contribute meaningfully to society.
