Dev Comm Students Declare War On Examination Malpractice

Some postgraduate students of the Department of Theatre and Media Arts, TMA, Federal University of Lafia, FULafia, have joined the campaign against examination malpractice, describing the vice as a major threat to the integrity of Nigeria's education system.

The students, who specialise in development communication, made their position known during a courtesy visit to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Aleruchi Chuku, where they pledged support for the University's efforts to eradicate the menace.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Zainab Ogbole said examination malpractice had continued to erode the credibility of academic certificates, promote mediocrity and discourage hardworking students.

She noted that the practice also fuels corruption, produces unqualified graduates and weakens public confidence in tertiary institutions, with far-reaching consequences for national development.

Ogbole urged students to embrace hard work, discipline and academic honesty, stressing that genuine success could only be achieved through diligence.

She further called on the University's authorities, parents and other stakeholders to strengthen awareness campaigns and enforce existing regulations to curb examination malpractice and safeguard the quality and reputation of higher education in the country.

Earlier, welcoming the students to her office, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor thanked them for their contribution to the fight against examination malpractice.

She said that the University would not relent in its fight against the menace until it was finally and firmly rooted out.
