The Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) formally inducted its newest cohort of Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNSc) graduates on Tuesday, 18th November 2025, during the 6th Induction and Oath-Taking Ceremony.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello (mni, NPOM), tasked the newly minted nurses to embrace their roles as advocates for positive change and symbols of hope. Addressing the inductees, she said:
"As products of LASU stepping out into the world today, you carry the responsibility to be advocates for positive change and beacons of hope."

Prof. Olatunji-Bello urged the graduates to strive for excellence in all professional pursuits, while commending the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) for its dedication to strengthening nursing education nationwide.

In his welcome address, Provost of LASUCOM, Prof. Olufemi E. Idowu, described the ceremony as a pivotal transition from academic training to professional practice. He emphasized that:
"As you take the oath today, you join the frontlines of healthcare where courage meets compassion and science meets humanity. We are confident that you will uphold the highest ideals of the profession, honor the College and University, and contribute meaningfully to community health."

The Honourable Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr. Tolani Sule, represented by Permanent Secretary, Mr. Adeniran Kasali, hailed the induction as a key reinforcement of Lagos State’s healthcare workforce, noting that the graduates’ skills are urgently needed to strengthen frontlines and enhance healthcare delivery across the state.

Goodwill messages from Chief Medical Director, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, Director of Nursing Services, Lagos State, Mrs. Sola Aketi, and Head of LASUCOM Nursing Department, Dr. Abimbola Ojo, underscored that true nursing leadership begins with humility. They encouraged graduates to remain lifelong learners, embrace new knowledge, and pursue professional growth without limits.

Guest Lecturer, Dr. Oluwatosin Ope-Babadele, delivered a thought-provoking lecture titled “In the Era of Technology, Will AI Replace Nursing?”, examining the impact of artificial intelligence on the future of healthcare delivery.

The formal induction followed the presentation of graduates by Dean, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Prof. S. O. Ikuerowo. The professional oath was administered on behalf of the NMCN Registrar and CEO, Prof. Fatima Kyari, by her representative, Ms. Nikola Joledo.

Awards were conferred on outstanding graduates, with Overall Best Graduating Student, Awode Roqeebat Kikelomo, delivering an emotional response on behalf of her peers.
