LASUSTECH Students Protest After Tragic Death of Emmanuel Nweke

Students of Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) have launched a peaceful protest following the tragic death of one of their colleagues, Emmanuel Nweke, who fell from a two-storey building in Ikorodu, Lagos State. Holding placards that read "No More Dilapidated Hostels" and "Justice for Emmanuel," the students are demanding better living conditions for residents of the institution's hostels.

The unfortunate incident occurred at the Lasunwon First Gate building, where Nweke, a newly admitted student, was residing. It was reported that Nweke stepped onto the first-floor balcony corridor and leaned on the balcony railing, which gave way, leading to his fatal fall. His death has sent shockwaves through the LASUSTECH community, sparking both grief and frustration among students.

In response to the tragedy, the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has sealed the building, which was deemed to be structurally unsafe. The agency has also evacuated all tenants from the building and refunded their rents, highlighting the severity of the building’s condition.
