Leadership Crisis Rocks University of Ilorin Alumni Association

A leadership crisis has engulfed the University of Ilorin Alumni Association, with two factional groups laying claim to the association's headship.

One group, backed by the university authority and past alumni presidents, is led by Professor Kilani Abdulrasheed Olusuyi. The other faction is headed by Dr. Stephen Olawale Fashakin.

The executive committee of the alumni association, led by Professor Kilani, has petitioned the Nigerian Police and the Department of State Security Service (DSS) to investigate Dr. Fashakin for alleged impersonation.

According to the association, Dr. Fashakin has continued to impersonate Professor Kilani at various fora, including a recent visit to the Controller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service.

In a counter-statement, the factional executive committee, led by Dr. Fashakin, accused Professor Kilani of impersonation, claiming that he is the authentic national president of the association.

The crisis has been ongoing since 2021, when Dr. Fashakin's tenure as president was terminated by a congress resolution. A caretaker committee was subsequently appointed to manage the association's affairs until a new executive committee was elected in August 2024.

The association's leadership crisis is currently pending before a competent court of law in Ilorin.
