Maduka University Hosts MLSCN Resource Verification Visit

Maduka University, Ekwegbe-Nsukka, on Monday welcomed a high-powered delegation from the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), which carried out a resource verification exercise at the institution’s Department of Medical Laboratory Science.

Maduka University, Ekwegbe-Nsukka, on Monday welcomed a high-powered delegation from the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), which carried out a resource verification exercise at the institution’s Department of Medical Laboratory Science.

The team, led by Professor Charles Onyenekwe, included Dr. (Mrs.) Helen Waribo, Mr. Stanley Nkemakolam, Acting Head of Department at MLSCN, and Mrs. Regina Nnadozie, Assistant Chief in the Department of Education. They were received by the university’s Chancellor, Dr. Samuel Maduka Onyishi; Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles Ogbulogo; Registrar, Mr. John Omeje; and other key officers and lecturers.

Welcoming the visitors, Registrar Omeje described the visit as a strong statement on the relevance and potential of Medical Laboratory Science in Nigeria. He expressed optimism that the exercise would help strengthen the department and push it to greater heights.

Vice-Chancellor Ogbulogo, in a lecture titled “The Force of Tradition in the Trajectory of Human Development”, underscored the importance of culture and tradition in advancing societies. He linked the growth of human civilisation to the development of systems such as government, religion, money, and regulatory bodies, stressing that Maduka University is committed to building on such traditions to sustain excellence in medical sciences.

Chancellor Onyishi, reflecting on his personal commitment to education and medical sciences, reiterated the university’s dedication to quality service delivery at all levels. He disclosed that the Maduka University Teaching Hospital in Nsukka would soon become operational, adding that the collaboration with MLSCN was a welcome step in consolidating the university’s vision.

Responding, team leader Professor Onyenekwe explained that the verification exercise was designed to assess facilities and offer guidance to ensure compliance with professional benchmarks. He warned of the risks posed by poorly trained laboratory scientists to medical decision-making and emphasised the Council’s responsibility to safeguard quality in training.

After touring the facilities, Onyenekwe commended Maduka University for putting in place structures that meet the provisional minimum academic standards required for training medical laboratory scientists. He assured that MLSCN would continue to partner with the university to promote excellence and uphold professional standards in the field.
