Maryam Abacha American University Launches Space Education and Incubation Centre

Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has partnered with Desert Sky Exploration Limited (DSEL) to establish a Space Education and Incubation Centre, officially unveiled on October 4, 2024. This initiative aims to enhance research in space science and inspire future generations of scientists and engineers.
The centre's launch follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed between MAAUN and DSEL on July 8, 2024, with the goal of fostering space innovation in Africa. Abdulkadir Nuhu Aminu, CEO of DSEL, emphasized the importance of innovation hubs in developing Africa's space economy and urged for support to propel the continent to the forefront of space exploration.
MAAUN President, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, highlighting its potential to advance Africa's standing in space technology. Kano State's Commissioner for Science and Technology, Alhaji Tajo Othman, represented by SSA on ICT, Ibrahim Yusuf Sharada, assured the state's commitment to supporting the centre's growth.
The event featured a panel discussion on “Space Innovation in Africa: Challenges and Opportunities,” with expert insights on space science and its implications for Africa's future. Engr. Muftawu Sanusi delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of the speakers and the active engagement of attendees.
University management, including Vice President Administration Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar and Director of the Founder’s Office Dr. Aliyu Miringa, were present at the occasion.
