Meeting Between Federal Government and ASUU Postponed Until August 28
The meeting between the Federal Government and ASUU, initially scheduled for Monday, has been postponed to August 28. ASUU's President, Emmanuel Osodeke, confirmed the change, though the reason for the delay has not been provided. The rescheduled meeting follows ASUU's recent strike notice over issues such as funding, unpaid allowances, and administrative concerns.
A crucial meeting between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), originally slated for Monday, has been rescheduled. Emmanuel Osodeke, ASUU's President, confirmed on Monday that the meeting, announced by the Minister of Education last Friday, no longer took place as planned.
The reason for the postponement has not been disclosed. The rescheduled meeting is now set for Wednesday, August 28.
This development follows ASUU's strike notice issued to the federal government last Tuesday. The notice came after a National Executive Committee meeting held on August 19 at the University of Ibadan. ASUU's demands include an emergency revitalisation fund for public universities, payment of outstanding earned academic allowances, and the release of withheld salaries, promotion arrears, and third-party deductions.
Additional concerns raised by the union include halting illegal recruitments, addressing the proliferation and mismanagement of public universities, and removing universities from the treasury single account.
