NYSC Cultural Carnival Showcases Nigeria’s Diversity and Unity at Plateau State Camp

The NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp at WAYE Foundation, Doi-Du, Jos South, Plateau State, was alive with color and excitement as corps members from different platoons came together to celebrate Nigeria's cultural diversity during the NYSC Cultural Carnival. The event featured a vibrant showcase of music, dance, and traditional attire, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the nation.

State Coordinator, Mr. Jonathan I. Yavala, emphasized that the carnival is designed to promote and preserve Nigeria’s cultural values. He noted that the NYSC has consistently fostered national unity and integration, encouraging corps members to use the event as an opportunity to relax, make new friends, and connect with individuals from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds.

Mrs. Rachael Macaulay, Head of the Social Committee, commended the corps members for their enthusiasm and commitment to showcasing Nigeria’s cultural wealth.

The carnival's highlight included a colorful procession led by the State Coordinator, cultural displays from various platoons, and playlets depicting key life events such as marriage and childbirth. Participants showcased the traditions of several ethnic groups, including the Benin, Gbagyi, Yoruba, Igbo, Ibibio, and Hausa-Fulani communities.

Each platoon's performance, infused with captivating music, dance, and traditional attire, reflected the beauty of their respective cultures. Additionally, the NYSC Cultural Troupe, Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS), and Marshal Band added energy and flair to the event.

The celebration concluded with 7 Platoon taking first place for their impressive portrayal of Gbagyi culture, followed by 2 Platoon in second place and 8 Platoon in third.
