Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has announced stringent guidelines aimed at enhancing safety measures across educational institutions. These measures were introduced alongside the launch of new signage initiatives designed to uphold zero-tolerance policies against sexual abuse and bullying.

  1. In-Classroom Supervision: Every classroom in primary and secondary schools must have a designated sitting teacher present during school hours, ensuring immediate oversight and accountability.
  2. Playground Supervision: During breaks, four designated teachers must be on duty outside, actively supervising children's activities to prevent incidents and respond promptly to any concerns.
  3. Restroom Safety: To enhance security, sitting cleaners or staff members must be stationed at the entrances or corridors of restrooms, providing a visible presence to prevent misconduct and ensure student safety.
  4. Hostel Oversight: In residential facilities, living staff members must be stationed on a rotational basis to maintain continuous supervision and support for students residing in hostels.
  5. Surveillance: Implementing modern security measures, such as CCTV cameras installed throughout school premises, to monitor activities and provide additional safeguards against potential threats.
