MLSCN Conducts Professional Accreditation of Medical Laboratory Science at McPherson University
As part of its mandate to uphold professional standards in medical laboratory education and in furtherance of its commitment to academic excellence and regulatory compliance, McPherson University welcomed the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) for a professional accreditation exercise at the University.
The accreditation visit focused on the Medical Laboratory Science programme in the Faculty of Medical Laboratory Science, College of Allied Health Sciences. The exercise involved a comprehensive assessment of academic facilities, staffing profile, curriculum delivery, laboratories, and overall compliance with approved national standards.
The accreditation team was led by Professor Charles Onyenekwe of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, members of the team included Dr. Akinwale Akinlabi, Director of Education, MLSCN; Dr. Adesola Olalekan from the University of Lagos, and Mrs. Okonji Lauretta of the MLSCN Lagos Office.
Speaking during the exercise, Professor Onyenekwe described the accreditation visit as a standard peer-review process designed to strengthen programme quality. He explained that the team’s observations and recommendations were intended to further enhance the programme and ensure sustained alignment with national benchmarks and best practices.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francis Igbasan, welcomed the accreditation team and expressed the University’s appreciation for the Council’s role in maintaining professional standards. He reaffirmed the institution’s openness to constructive feedback and its commitment to continuous improvement, noting that McPherson University remains focused on producing graduates who are nationally relevant and globally competitive.
The Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) is a federal government regulatory agency established by Act 11 of 2003. The Council is responsible for regulating medical laboratory services, practice, and training in Nigeria; licensing practitioners; and overseeing in-vitro diagnostics (IVDs), in line with its mandate to promote high standards and quality healthcare delivery nationwide.
