My first-class feat doesn't move me — UNILAG graduate

Saheed Azeez, a Mechanical Engineering first-class graduate of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, says his academic achievement is not what defines him.

Sharing his academic journey, Azeez said the drive behind his success was a desire to solve real problems affecting Nigerians, particularly in language and technology.

He is the brain behind YarnGPT, an artificial intelligence tool built to support Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa. The innovation is aimed at bridging the digital language gap and making technology more accessible to millions of Nigerians who communicate primarily in indigenous languages.

According to Azeez, while graduating with a first-class degree was fulfilling, his focus remains on impact. He noted that true success for him will be measured by how many people can use technology in the language they understand best.

His story has drawn attention within and outside UNILAG, with many describing it as an example of how academic excellence can be channeled into solutions that address local needs.
