NANS convention: FCT police arrest five, recover weapons
Five suspects arrested for planning to disrupt the National Association of Nigerian Students convention in Abuja, found with arms and ammunition; investigation ongoing
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command announced on Wednesday the arrest of five individuals suspected of planning to disrupt the recently concluded convention of the National Association of Nigerian Students in Abuja.
The suspects, identified as Adeniran Femi, Ishaya Christopher, Obigi Emeka, Fatokun Ayodele, and Abdullahi Saliu, were apprehended with a cache of arms and ammunition. The recovered items include a pump-action gun, a locally-made double-barrel shotgun, two locally-made pistols, a Beretta pistol, 15 live ammunition, cartridges, an axe, 12 cutlasses, mobile phones, a bag containing uniforms of security agencies, and a Mazda car containing some of the exhibits.

FCT Commissioner of Police, Haruna Garba, issued a stern warning against any form of disturbance of public peace, unlawful assembly, and criminal infiltration of lawful assemblies within the nation’s capital.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Wednesday. She noted that the suspects were attempting to infiltrate the November 30, 2023, NANS convention to disrupt the process.

“The suspects were promptly intercepted by security operatives, some of whom were handed over to the police by the Department of State Services,” Adeh said. She further noted that the investigation is being intensified while efforts are ongoing to arrest other suspects still at large.
