NAPRI ABU Trains 28 Enugu Livestock Farmers on Artificial Insemination Technology

The National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI) at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has trained 28 livestock farmers from Enugu State on artificial insemination (AI) technology. The five-day training took place at NAPRI's headquarters in Shika, Zaria, from November 28 to November 29, 2024.  

The training was organized by the Enugu State government's Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) and focused on using AI as a climate-smart technology for improving livestock breeding and reproductive efficiency.

Mr. Victor Ngwu, Permanent Secretary of the Enugu State Ministry of Agriculture, led the group of farmers and expressed satisfaction with the training program. The State Project Coordinator of L-PRES, Dr. Elizabeth Ifeyinwa Nnajieze, was represented by Dr. Nnamani Enoch Nnaemeka, who noted that the training aimed to provide practical knowledge of AI technology for livestock enhancement.

Dr. Yusha’u Usman Abubakar, Head of NAPRI's Artificial Insemination Unit, led the training, emphasizing that AI ensures efficient breeding management and improved livestock productivity, which in turn contributes to better farmer income and national food security.  

Dr. Abubakar commended the participants for their active involvement and praised Enugu L-PRES for its support. NAPRI’s practical training programs continue to attract farmers and researchers from across the country and beyond.
