Ahmadu Bello University’s NAPRI Impresses Enugu Livestock Farmers with AI Technology
Following the exposure to NAPRI's expertise, the Enugu State government abandoned its initial plans to send the farmers abroad for similar training
Livestock farmers from Enugu State have commended the National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI) at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, for its groundbreaking research in artificial insemination (AI) technology, describing it as a "pride to Nigeria."
The praise came during a five-day training program at NAPRI, attended by 28 farmers and led by Professor Emeka Nzeh, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources Management at Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT). Professor Nzeh described NAPRI's research and resources as "wonderful," urging greater public awareness of the institute's innovations.
Following the exposure to NAPRI's expertise, the Enugu State government abandoned its initial plans to send the farmers abroad for similar training. Professor Nzeh highlighted the commitment and competence of NAPRI’s staff and called for enhanced staff welfare to further boost productivity.
The training also included ESUT’s Head of Animal Science, Dr. Igugo Raymond, and marked the beginning of plans for ESUT to collaborate with NAPRI in advancing AI technology.
Professor Nzeh praised ESUT Vice-Chancellor, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, for supporting agricultural development, citing his facilitation of a 15,000 day-old chicks donation to the faculty. He also lauded the Enugu State government, led by Governor Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for sponsoring the training and using internally generated revenue to revitalize the agricultural sector and implement poverty alleviation initiatives across the state.
The farmers toured NAPRI's 1,000-hectare facility, gaining insights into livestock production innovations aimed at boosting productivity and economic growth.
