Nasarawa State University Students Protest Against Vice Chancellor Actions
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has petitioned the House Committee on Education, expressing deep concern and disappointment over the recent actions of the Vice Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
The petition highlights two major issues: the suspension of the Students' Union Government (SUG) election and the imposition of a mandatory five thousand naira levy on students. The SUG election was suspended without any public explanation, leaving a vacuum in the union's leadership.
Furthermore, the Vice Chancellor imposed a mandatory levy on students to repair properties damaged during the SUG election. The students argue that this levy is unnecessary and insensitive, considering the current economic situation.
The students are calling on the House Committee on Education to intervene in the matter and address the looming crisis in Nasarawa State University.
It's worth noting that in July 2024, the students of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, pledged not to join a nationwide protest, instead opting for dialogue as a means of addressing grievances.
