National Orientation Agency and Olam Agric Company Visit Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano for National Identity Enlightenment and Tree Planting Campaign
On 23 October 2024, the National Orientation Agency (NOA), led by Hajiya Maijidda Dalha Inuwa, visited Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano (YUMSUK) as part of its campaign to promote the national identity project and introduce the new Nigerian National Anthem.
The courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor’s office marked the beginning of their mission, where Hajiya Maijidda elaborated on the agency's goals, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that every Nigerian learns the new anthem despite the challenges it presents.
During her address, Hajiya Maijidda stressed that mastering the national anthem is a key step towards fostering patriotism and unity among students. She was joined by Mal Abba Kyari Inusa, another NOA official, who stated that the agency had embarked on a state-wide tour of tertiary institutions, starting with YUMSUK, to enlighten students about the new anthem.
While welcoming the team, the Vice Chancellor of Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, expressed his commitment to the program, noting the significance of the visit despite the late arrival of the official letter from the NOA. He ensured that members of the university management were present to engage in the discussion. Professor Kurawa reaffirmed the university’s openness to any initiative that promotes national development, assuring the NOA of YUMSUK's full support. He then directed the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Musa, to lead the NOA team and facilitate their engagement with students.
At the university's main hall, the NOA team conducted an interactive session where they taught students the new national anthem and encouraged them to embrace discipline and patriotism. The session was both friendly and productive, with students actively participating and showing interest in the national identity project.
On the same day, Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano also received a team from Olam Agric Company (Crown Flour Mill), who launched a tree planting campaign under the banner of the "Olam Fleet Operation." The team, led by Ibrahim Muhammad Isa, brought a total of 1,000 trees to be planted on the university’s campus, including 400 mango trees, 400 date palms, and 200 guava trees.
While addressing the team from Olam Agric, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa expressed his deep appreciation for the generous donation of trees. He highlighted the environmental, social, and religious benefits of planting trees, particularly within a university setting, and emphasized the need for the community to safeguard and nurture the environment.
The Vice Chancellor, directed the university’s relevant offices to oversee the planting and ensure proper maintenance of the trees, ensuring their long-term contribution to the campus ecosystem.
The dual events of the day shows YUMSUK's commitment to national development and environmental sustainability, reflecting the university's ongoing efforts to engage with both governmental agencies and private sector initiatives for the benefit of the institution and its students.
