The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has announced plans to revamp its Foreign Postgraduate Scholarship scheme by incorporating a tracking system to monitor scholars' progress after graduation.
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has announced plans to revamp its Foreign Postgraduate Scholarship scheme by incorporating a tracking system to monitor scholars' progress after graduation. This new initiative aims to establish a comprehensive database of over 2,900 scholars who have benefited from the program over the past 14 years. The tracking system will enable the NDDC to assess the scholarship's impact on human capacity development in the Niger Delta region.
Speaking during a visit to Coventry University in the United Kingdom as part of the NDDC's Monitoring Team for the scholarship program, NDDC Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, outlined the plans for the remodeling. He noted that the revamped scheme would place greater emphasis on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses to better align with the region's evolving technological needs.
Dr. Ogbuku emphasized that prioritizing STEM courses would help address the growing demand for skilled professionals in fields critical to the technological advancement and sustainable development of the Niger Delta. The tracking system will also provide valuable data for evaluating the effectiveness of the scholarship program in building human capital and supporting regional growth.
The NDDC's commitment to restructuring the scholarship scheme reflects a broader strategy to enhance educational opportunities and promote sustainable development in the Niger Delta.
