NECO Reports Over 1.3 Million Candidates Registered for 2024 SSCE

The National Examination Council (NECO) has has reported a record number of 1,376,391 candidates registered for the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (internal) (SSCE) conducted in June. The 2024 NECO SSCE commenced on June 19th and is scheduled to conclude on July 25th, 2024.

The National Examination Council (NECO) has has reported a record number of 1,376,391 candidates registered for the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (internal) (SSCE) conducted in June. 

Prof. Dantani Wushishi, the Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, made this revelation during a press briefing held at NECO centers in Enugu. The Head of Public Affairs, Azeez Sani, confirmed the authenticity of the statement.

Prof. Wushishi expressed satisfaction with the examination’s smooth conduct across the nation. He attributed this success to the implementation of various measures aimed at ensuring a seamless exercise.

According to Prof. Wushishi, the decrease in incidents of exam malpractice can be attributed to innovative strategies put in place by NECO. He emphasized the importance of hard work for candidates to achieve good grades, stating that there are no shortcuts to success.

The Registrar revealed that he personally monitored the exam process in several states, including Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Abia, Imo, and Anambra. In these states, critical stakeholders praised NECO for its efficient organization, which contributed to a smooth conduct of the 2024 SSCE.

In addition to being conducted within Nigeria, the NECO SSCE is also being held in several other countries such as Togo, Benin Republic, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Niger Republic, Cote d’Ivoire, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Prof. Wushishi highlighted that the extension of NECO examinations to these countries demonstrates the global recognition and acceptance of NECO certificates.

The 2024 NECO SSCE commenced on June 19th and is scheduled to conclude on July 25th, 2024.
