Nigerian Students Body Denounces Alleged Plans for Protest Against EFCC, Affirms Support in Fighting Crimes

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has distanced itself from alleged plans by certain groups to stage protests against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). In response, NANS released a statement on Thursday, signed by its President, Lucky Emonefe, condemning the move by “faceless groups to manipulate students for their purposes.”

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has distanced itself from alleged plans by certain groups to stage protests against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to reports, EFCC issued a warning on Wednesday, revealing that a “shadowy group” is planning to instigate a protest against the Commission. “In the last couple of days, the group has been actively campaigning on social media, recruiting impressionable young Nigerians, including students, to take up ‘arms’ against the EFCC,” the Commission stated.

In response, NANS released a statement on Thursday, signed by its President, Lucky Emonefe, condemning the move by “faceless groups to manipulate students for their purposes.” Emonefe stated, “We strongly condemn the attempt to use students by these shadowy groups to intimidate the EFCC and distract it from its vital mission of ridding the country of corruption. Nigerian students and NANS stand in support of the EFCC and its mandate to combat economic and financial crimes.”

NANS expressed concern about reports of students being targeted and recruited to undermine the EFCC’s efforts, which are crucial for defending the country’s image, prestige, and economic well-being. he association stressed the importance of students maintaining their integrity and refusing to be tools in the hands of those seeking to undermine the strides being made by EFCC in the fight against corruption.
