NIOB Advocates Establishment of Building Department at MOAU
The Nigeria Institute of Building (NIOB), Benue State Chapter, on Friday, 10th July, 2026 paid a working visit to the Vice-Chancellor of Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University (MOAU), Makurdi, Professor Timothy Terseer Alabar, to congratulate him on his appointment and explore areas of mutual collaboration. The delegation was led by the State Chairman of the Institute, Bldr. Solomon Kyenge, who was represented by Bldr. Stephen Aende.
Speaking during the visit, Bldr. Stephen Aende described Professor Alabar's appointment as well deserved, expressing confidence in his leadership capacity and commitment to advancing the University. He stated that the Institute considered it important to identify with the Vice-Chancellor while seeking opportunities to partner with the University in promoting professionalism, innovation and excellence in the building industry.
The delegation highlighted the core objectives of the Nigeria Institute of Building, emphasizing its commitment to upholding ethical standards, professional competence and sustainable construction practices in Nigeria. As part of its advocacy, the Institute appealed to the University Management to consider establishing a Department of Building, explaining that such a programme would not only broaden the University's academic offerings but also contribute significantly to national development by producing highly skilled building professionals capable of addressing the country's growing construction and infrastructure needs.

The delegation further noted that the introduction of the programme would strengthen professional education in the built environment, create additional opportunities for prospective students and enhance the University's reputation as an institution committed to meeting contemporary manpower needs.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Timothy Terseer Alabar, expressed appreciation to the leadership of the Nigeria Institute of Building for the courtesy visit and the goodwill extended to the University. He commended the Institute for its invaluable contributions to the growth and development of the building profession and acknowledged the critical role of professional bodies in supporting quality teaching, research and community service.
Professor Alabar assured the delegation that the University Management would carefully consider the proposal for the establishment of a Department of Building in line with the University's academic vision, available resources and the regulatory requirements of the National Universities Commission (NUC). He reiterated the University's commitment to expanding its academic programmes in response to societal needs and pledged to sustain productive partnerships with relevant professional bodies in pursuit of academic excellence, innovation and national development.
He further emphasized that his administration remains committed to strengthening collaborations with professional institutions whose expertise can enhance the University's capacity to produce graduates equipped with the knowledge and practical skills required for national growth and global competitiveness.
