OGITECH Conducts Electronic SUG Election, Ajibola Wins Presidency
The Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa, has successfully conducted its Student Union Government (SUG) election using an electronic voting (E-voting) system, marking a significant milestone in the institution's drive to strengthen transparency, credibility and democratic participation through technology.

The election, which commenced on Friday, July 3, 2026, and concluded on Monday, July 6, 2026, saw students cast their votes electronically before the Student Union Electoral Committee (SUECO) announced the results.
Comrade Ajibola Toheeb Olakunle emerged as the President-elect after polling 1,353 votes to defeat his closest rival, Idowu Kehinde Ifamore, who secured 1,212 votes. Out of the 3,155 students accredited to participate in the exercise, Ajibola won the election by a margin of 141 votes.
Speaking during the electoral process, the Rector of OGITECH, Dr. Abiodun Oluseye, described the adoption of the E-voting system as a reflection of the institution's commitment to innovation, transparency and peaceful democratic engagement.
He said the initiative aligns with his administration's vision of positioning OGITECH as a centre of academic excellence while creating an environment where students can exercise their democratic rights seamlessly from any location.

"My commitment is to provide purposeful leadership that continues to place OGITECH as a beacon of academic excellence. We have focused on creating an enabling environment where students can freely exercise their democratic rights from the comfort of their locations," the Rector said.
Dr. Oluseye also assured a delegation of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun Joint Campus Committee (JCC), led by Comrade Olabode Faruq (Success), that adequate measures had been put in place to guarantee a transparent, peaceful and credible electoral process.
The NANS delegation commended the institution for deploying a digital voting system, noting that the innovation reduced opportunities for electoral malpractice and ensured that the outcome reflected the genuine choice of students.
Chairperson of the Student Union Electoral Committee (SUECO), Miss Gloria Atanda, formally declared Comrade Ajibola Toheeb Olakunle the winner of the election, ushering in a new administration for the Student Union Government.

The successful deployment of the E-voting system is expected to serve as a model for future student elections and further reinforces OGITECH's commitment to leveraging technology to enhance institutional governance, transparency and democratic participation.
