During the 2009 convocation of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), prominent figures, including the late Alhaji Shehu Shagari, former Senate President Senator David Mark, and the Secretary General of UNESCO, were awarded honorary degrees.
H.E. Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, then Vice President, represented President Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’adua at the event, while the Sultan of Sokoto, serving as NOUN’s Chancellor, was also in attendance.
