NOUN's Science Practical in Enugu Receives High Praise from Faculty Members

A university don from the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Sciences at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has commended the smooth conduct and administration of the 2024_2 Science Practical in the South-East region. The praise was expressed during an interview while monitoring the science practical sessions held in Enugu State.

The faculty member applauded the university management for their innovative approach in implementing mathematics practicals, describing NOUN as a pacesetter from which other universities could learn. The students participating in the exercise were drawn from various study centres within the zone.

Highlighting the importance of the practicals, the professor noted that they stimulate cognitive development and enhance students' memory, attention, and reasoning abilities, ultimately improving academic performance across major subjects. The practicals allow students to showcase the relevance of mathematical principles and instill a sense of purpose and motivation, making the learning experience more engaging.

Additionally, the professor emphasized the correlation between mathematical skills and technological proficiency in today's digital era, stating that proficiency in mathematics prepares students for careers involving coding, data analysis, and algorithms.

The Deputy Dean of the Faculty, who also monitored the exercise, stressed that the B.Sc. programme in science is incomplete without practicals, and all students must pass these practicals before graduation. She asserted that applying the knowledge gained from practicals equips students for real-world situations, making them competitive with peers from conventional universities.
