The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has vowed to implement stringent security measures to safeguard schools and protect students from kidnappers in Kogi State. This commitment was expressed by Dr. Hammed Abodunrin, the Commander of the National Safe School Response Coordination Centre (NSSRCC) during a visit to the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara.

The visit followed the abduction of an unspecified number of students by suspected bandits at CUSTECH, Osara, with 14 students subsequently rescued. Abodunrin emphasized the need to fortify security around schools to ensure the safety of students, declaring that the federal government is resolute in prioritizing student safety.

He highlighted the NSSRCC's role in coordinating responses to such incidents and emphasized the importance of proactive security measures. Additionally, Abodunrin underscored the NSSRCC's efforts to build the capacities of stakeholders in personal security, including university management, staff, security agents, and students.

The establishment of the NSSRCC at the NSCDC Headquarters demonstrates the government's commitment to addressing school attacks and their consequences nationwide. In response, the Vice-Chancellor of CUSTECH, Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita, commended the efforts of security agencies and expressed gratitude for the rescue of the abducted students. He pledged the institution's commitment to intelligence gathering and reiterated the hope that such incidents would not recur.
