NWU Kano Vice-Chancellor Visits Chancellor in Lafia; Secures Commitment for NELFUND Student Loans

The Vice-Chancellor of Northwest University (NWU) Kano, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, has concluded a high-level diplomatic and administrative tour aimed at strengthening institutional ties and expanding financial support for students.

On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Professor Bayero led a management delegation to Lafia, Nasarawa State, to visit the University’s Chancellor, Justice Sidi Muhammad Bage I. The team was received with a colorful traditional Kanuri reception at the Emir’s palace.

The Vice-Chancellor briefed the Chancellor on the milestones achieved during her tenure as the 4th substantive VC and congratulated him on his 7th anniversary as the Emir of Lafia Bare-Bari. She lauded the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, and Pro-Chancellor Professor Hafiz Abubakar for their unwavering support.

In response, Justice Bage pledged to facilitate international donor linkages to drive institutional growth, expressing his deep personal attachment to the university's success.

Following the royal visit, the Vice-Chancellor led the same delegation to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) in Abuja on Thursday, April 9, 2026.

Meeting with the Managing Director, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, Professor Bayero advocated for smoother access to federal education loans for NWU Kano students.

The VC formally briefed NELFUND on the upcoming 8th Biennial Conference of the Committee of Pro-Chancellors of State Universities (COPSUN), which NWU Kano will co-host with ADUSTEC, Wudil.

Mr. Sawyerr advised the university to submit a formal request for the portal extension, assuring the delegation of NELFUND's readiness to support the institution’s students.
