The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has officially announced that the Federal Government has yet to release the promised increment in the personal allowance for Corps members. This statement was issued from the Edo State Secretariat on October 10, 2024.
According to the press release, Corps members can expect to receive arrears reflecting the allowance increase, effective from July 2024. The NYSC reassured the 2023 Batch C Corps members that all their entitlements will be paid in due course.
In addition, the NYSC addressed concerns regarding payment for Corps members who served as ad hoc staff during the recent gubernatorial election in Edo State. The organization clarified that the responsibility for these payments lies solely with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and not with the NYSC Management. The management emphasized that rumors suggesting that the NYSC has deliberately withheld these allowances are unfounded.
The NYSC management is actively working to ensure that INEC fulfills its obligations to the concerned Corps members as promptly as possible. Corps members and stakeholders are encouraged to remain patient and understanding during this period.
Mrs. Ben-Ushie Frances Ifeoma, the State Coordinator, concluded the statement with appreciation for the cooperation and support of Corps members and stakeholders.
