Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has once again asserted its leadership in academic and research excellence by winning the prestigious Best Institutional AI Policy in Higher Education Award (University Category) at the 2025 AI Awareness Day in Higher Education.

The award, conferred during a virtual ceremony on February 17, 2025, recognizes OAU’s outstanding contributions to artificial intelligence (AI) policy development in higher education. The selection followed a rigorous evaluation process, with the university’s achievement officially announced in a letter signed by Professor Nasiru Maiturare, Chairman of the Awards Selection Committee.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation & Development), Professor Akanni Akinyemi, expressed excitement over the recognition and commended the Central Office of Research (COR) team, led by Executive Director Professor Ebun Adejuyige, for spearheading the formulation and refinement of the institution’s AI policy. He emphasized that the award underscores the university’s dedication to innovation, responsible AI governance, and academic leadership in the digital era.

“This victory is a testament to our collective resolve. For months, our team collaborated across disciplines to craft a policy that not only addresses current challenges but anticipates tomorrow’s AI landscape,” Professor Akinyemi stated.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, also lauded the university’s achievement, highlighting its commitment to excellence and forward-thinking in emerging technologies. He extended appreciation to the Central Office of Research and all individuals who contributed to the success.
